What’s New in BricsCAD V26 for Leica Infinity Users?
Transferring survey data from the field to the office remains one of the most time-consuming processes in many engineering projects. It often involves multiple steps — exporting files, converting formats, importing them into CAD, and repeating the same process whenever changes are made.
Beyond the additional time involved, this process also increases the risk of errors or discrepancies between field and office teams.
The new BricsCAD V26 introduces the Leica Connector, a new feature that establishes a live connection with Leica Infinity, significantly streamlining the workflow from field surveying to the final design.
Which Users Will Benefit Most?
The new feature is particularly beneficial for:
- Surveying and engineering firms using Leica Infinity and BricsCAD.
- Teams working simultaneously in the field and the office.
- Projects where survey data is frequently updated or revised.
- Professionals looking to reduce processing time and minimize the risk of human error.
From Export/Import to a Live Connection
Until now, every new measurement or correction would typically require the data to be exported again and re-imported into the CAD environment.
With Leica Connector, BricsCAD can directly access a Leica Infinity project through the .IPRJ file, keeping the data up to date throughout the project.
The process is straightforward:
- You create or open your project in Leica Infinity.
- You select Leica Connector from within BricsCAD.
- You open the project file (.IPRJ).
- The points and lines are automatically displayed in BricsCAD.
- BricsCAD keeps track of changes and notifies you when new information becomes available.
The field and office teams can now work in parallel.
The biggest advantage of the new feature is not simply eliminating the need for repeated exports and imports.
It enables the office team to begin working on the design while the field team is still carrying out the survey.
When new points are added, codes are changed, or survey lines are updated in Leica Infinity, BricsCAD detects the changes and notifies the user. This helps ensure that all teams are working from the same, most up-to-date version of the project.
AutoMapping: Automated Data Organization
A survey can involve hundreds or even thousands of points.
With AutoMapping, BricsCAD uses the survey codes from the field survey to automatically apply the appropriate:
- Layers
- Symbols
- Labels
- Styles
This allows large volumes of survey data to be organized within seconds, without manual sorting, saving significant time during drawing preparation.
Automatic Change Synchronization
As a project progresses, updates and corrections are inevitable:
- a point code is changed,
- a description is updated,
- a new point is added,
- a survey line is updated.
With the Leica Connector, these changes are detected automatically, so users know when new data is available to update their project.
Fewer Errors, Greater Reliability
Reducing manual processes has a direct impact on project reliability.
With the live connection:
- repeated exports and imports are reduced,
- duplicate data entry is avoided,
- discrepancies between field and office data are minimized,
- all teams can work from the same up-to-date data.
Access Data Without Reprocessing
Another useful feature is the ability to retrieve data.
If a point or object is accidentally deleted in BricsCAD, it can be retrieved directly from Leica Infinity without having to re-export or reprocess the project.
This provides an added layer of security, particularly for large or complex surveying projects.
The Leica Connector is more than just another new feature in BricsCAD V26. It fundamentally improves the way field and office teams work together by reducing manual processes, minimizing errors, and enabling teams to work with more up-to-date data.
For engineering and surveying firms already using Leica Infinity, this feature can help accelerate data processing, improve team coordination, and enhance the reliability of project deliverables.
