As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting education and the professional development of the next generation of engineers, METRICA conducted a training demonstration of the DJI Matrice 400 at the School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering (SATM-GIS) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). The demonstration was held as part of the 8th-semester elective course “Large-Scale Geodetic Exercises II.”
The session was designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of the capabilities of modern UAV systems in surveying and geodetic applications, as they are used today in real-world projects and professional environments.
During the demonstration, the capabilities of the DJI Matrice 400 were presented, with a focus on mission planning, safe flight procedures, geospatial data collection, and its applications in surveying, photogrammetry, infrastructure inspection, and mapping.
Students had the opportunity to observe the system in live flight, explore the equipment required for professional surveying, and engage with the METRICA team in discussions about the requirements, challenges, and opportunities for using UAVs in modern engineering applications.
At METRICA, we believe that familiarizing students with the technologies currently used in real-world projects is essential for a smooth transition from academia to professional practice. Through initiatives like this, METRICA aims to actively contribute to knowledge sharing and strengthen the connection between university education and the professional world.
The students’ positive response highlighted the value of hands-on exposure to the technologies shaping the geospatial and surveying sectors. Investing in knowledge and strengthening the connection between academia and the real-world needs of the industry are essential to preparing the engineers of tomorrow.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Dr. George Pantazis, NTUA Professor and Director of the Geodesy Laboratory, the course instructors, and the entire School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering (SATM-GIS) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) for their hospitality, excellent collaboration, and continued support of initiatives that bring students closer to the technologies and demands of today’s professional environment.
