From Data to Decisions: METRICA on World Hydrography Day 2026

METRICA took part in World Hydrography Day 2026, showcasing innovative technologies and Digital Port solutions shaping the future of ports.
World Hydrography Day-Hellenic Navy Hydrographic Service

METRICA took part in the event organized by the Hellenic Hydrographic Service in Tolo to mark World Hydrography Day 2026, bringing together representatives from the maritime and academic communities, public authorities, and industry professionals.

This year’s World Hydrography Day focused on “Transforming How Ocean Data Is Shared,” highlighting the importance of collecting, managing, and effectively using marine data to support navigational safety, protect the marine environment, and promote the sustainable development of port and coastal infrastructure.

As part of the event, METRICA’s CEO Errikos Skassis delivered a presentation on modern technologies for collecting, integrating, and leveraging geospatial and marine data, as well as their role in shaping the next generation of ports.

The presentation highlighted the capabilities of technologies such as multibeam echosounders, unmanned surface vessels (USVs), topo-bathymetric LiDAR systems, UAV-based large-scale mapping solutions, and environmental monitoring networks.

By integrating these data sources into Digital Twin platforms, ports can gain a comprehensive view of their infrastructure and surrounding marine environment, supporting safer navigation, more efficient operations, and sustainable development.

Particular emphasis was placed on interoperability, data availability, and seamless data exchange between different systems and stakeholders. As highlighted throughout the event, moving from isolated, static datasets to dynamic, interconnected information ecosystems is a key enabler of the digital transformation of ports and marine infrastructure.

The capabilities of Digital Ports were also presented, highlighting their potential to support decision-making, risk prediction, environmental monitoring, climate change resilience, and greater operational efficiency.

METRICA is actively involved in hydrographic surveying, bathymetric mapping, environmental monitoring, and the digital transformation of port infrastructure, contributing to the development of solutions that turn data into insights and insights into better decisions.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Commander of the Hellenic Hydrographic Service, Rear Admiral Dimitrios Alefras HN, for the invitation and hospitality, as well as to all the members of the Service for organizing such an insightful event, which highlighted the importance of hydrography, innovation, and collaboration in shaping the future of maritime operations and marine infrastructure.
